We are the bridge that connects the artisans in Africa to the industry around the globe. Mukono Foundation is a collective management organization that acts in the interest, and on behalf of traditional artisans and creative cultural stewards in over 10 countries throughout Africa. We work to obtain the rights and economic gains for their intellectual cultural property. This includes textiles, crafts, and furniture objects that have traditional and societal significance. We also use our robust creative and cultural expertise to raise awareness around the significance of cultural intellectual property through campaigns, and targeted grants in primary education and artistic development.
Mukono Foundation provide charitable funding to the Suubi School in Uganda. Suubi School sits in one of the community's that is home to skilled basket weavers which produce goods for a global roster of clients.
The Mukono Foundation is working with woodcarvers in Western Cameroon to advocate for their economic rights. Their copyrights are being infringed upon due to unauthorized reproduction of their cultural objects in Asia and sold in the U.S.
As part of our advocacy and awareness objectives, we met with and interviewed several artisan collectives in Morocco to document their personal stories and their creative processes. This stunning visual and historical record will be published and available globally in Fall 2024.
We formed a partnership in rural Zambia with a local cultural organization to provide materials and supplies grants for a group of basketweavers in the area. We also secured a small grant for the local cultural center.
