About Mukono Foundation
Established in 2014, Mukono Foundation is named after Uganda’s central Mukono District. Mukono means “arm” in Luganda, the nation’s primary and most widely spoken language. Mukono Foundation partners with traditional African artisans to preserve handmade artistic traditions, hence the origin of our name—Mukono Foundation. Artistic and cultural preservation are at the core of our mission, and we partner with creative communities to secure their intellectual rights in the global economy.
